Charged by Delta-Q Feature: American Battery Solutions

The “Charged by Delta-Q” program was created to build a community for OEMs, battery and BMS manufacturers and facilitate innovation and collaboration among the electric battery, charging and equipment sectors. Partnering with industry-leading battery and battery management systems (BMS) companies will help OEMs reduce the technical risk and time spent researching and testing batteries and chargers to find compatible electric power systems. All battery companies that are part of this program have had their optimized products iteratively tested and validated with Delta-Q chargers.

We are excited to have American Battery Solutions (ABS) be a part of the launch of our program and bring optimized and compatible solutions to the marketplace alongside Delta-Q. To help our customers and audience learn more about American Battery Solutions and their participation in the Charged by Delta-Q program, we interviewed Subhash Dhar, CEO at American Battery Solutions.

What industries does American Battery Solutions cater to?

Subhash Dhar: American Battery Solutions prides itself in its flexibility and caters to many markets. Key ones include motive, light EV, manufacturing & industrial. We also have customers who include blue chip companies in the field of transportation, industrial and stationary energy storage systems, ABS anticipates being able to announce several major projects in the first half of 2022. In January our partner Intimidator began production of their new eNVy, neighbourhood electric vehicle powered by the ABS Alliance Intelligent Battery Series™. We also recently announced a partnership with Twin Vee, a manufacturer of electric boats, who will begin production in late 2022 of a new boat powered by the ABS ProLiance Intelligent Battery Series™.

Why did American Battery Solutions join the Charged by Delta-Q program, and what excites them the most about the program?

Subhash Dhar: American Battery Solutions joined the Charged by Delta-Q program to ensure that our current and future partners can see our products showcase of integration with Delta-Q’s curated network of tested and compatible battery and charging solutions. We are excited for this collaboration with Delta-Q, and the many opportunities that will grow from this partnership.

What products are American Battery Solutions featuring as part of the Charged by Delta-Q program?

Subhash Dhar: American Battery Solutions, Alliance Intelligent Battery Series™ is the featuring solution in the Charged by Delta-Q program! Featuring our E48.20, I24-3.0, & I48-3.0. Specifically, our I48-3.0 offers industry-leading power, enhanced range, durability, and zero maintenance for golf cars and other electric vehicles in an industry standard GC2 size. Additionally, the I48-3.0 offers up to 75 percent greater discharge capabilities than any other standard-sized Lithium-Ion battery, enabling it to endure the power of the most abusive aftermarket motor controllers offered on the market.

Developed, engineered, and assembled in the USA, the I48-3.0, like all ABS batteries, offers automotive-grade systems design, engineering, and validation, with AECQ-qualified components. ABS’ wide range of lithium-ion solutions offer zero maintenance and long life both as aftermarket retrofits as well as designed-in OEM solutions.

What makes American Battery Solutions stand apart as a battery manufacturer?

Subhash Dhar: American Battery Solutions was founded with the goal of developing and offering American automotive quality, engineered, and U.S. assembled battery packs to those segments of the market that were not being serviced by the “big” cell makers. These underserved markets applications emerged from the growing demands in electric vehicles (EV), electrified transportation, motive (Golf Cars, Floor Scrubbers, MEWP/AWP, etc.), industrial, commercial markets, and grid connected energy storage systems (ESS). We were repeatedly approached by these types of companies looking for battery systems at relatively low volumes who were not able to find solutions at the larger cell makers. This formed the core of our product development targets.

In serving these markets, ABS developed several families of products to serve these customers. ABS first launched our Alliance Intelligent Battery Series™ family of 24V and 48V, 2kWh and 3kWh modules for industrial vehicles, light electric, and golf cars. These are developed as “off-the-shelf” solutions that can quickly be integrated into a wide variety of applications. These solutions integrate advanced safety features to protect the cells even in these industrial applications. The Industrial series of 3kWh batteries is in a standard GC2 lead acid form factor and more importantly it offers nearly 2x the energy of similar products on the market and can often replace two or more of our competitor’s batteries. These batteries are also easily scalable in parallel up to ten batteries, making them a great solution for OEMs with more than one vehicle they need to support.

What are the key benefits that OEMs will get by working with American Battery Solutions and the Charged by Delta-Q program?

Subhash Dhar: We are very excited to be part of the Charged by Delta-Q program as it will continue to help showcase American Battery Solutions and our Alliance brand of products with many OEM’s that are looking for an advanced Lithium-Ion battery solution developed, engineered, and assembled in the USA. Knowing that our Alliance products have validated charging profiles with Delta-Q that will optimize their performance, will provide OEMs with the confidence that we will deliver a long-lasting reliable solution for their application.

What market trends are American Battery Solutions most excited about, and what is the company doing to help OEMs?

Subhash Dhar: In the markets that we are engaged in, we are seeing a transition from the traditional lead acid batteries to high energy and high-powered lithium-ion solutions. With the performance and cost reductions that the lithium-ion batteries have seen those changes are making lithium-ion a viable solution for these applications today.

What is the most interesting project that American Battery Solutions has worked on recently?

Subhash Dhar: 2022 will be a big year for ABS as we continue to add new products to our Alliance family of low voltage batteries and as we partner with companies like Intimidator who is ramping up production of their new eNVy vehicles with our Alliance products. We are also launching our first Proliance high voltage battery pack and our first high voltage custom battery packs. We are also working hard on some new product developments that will give us entry into new markets including offering a new Grid Energy Storage System that is expected to launch in 2023.

2022 will also be the year that we grow to a truly international organization as we expand our customer base to Europe and throughout the world.
