International Women’s Day: Celebrating The Women At Delta-Q Technologies

International Women’s Day is a global day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. At Delta-Q Technologies, we are proud of our team, and thought this day was a great opportunity to highlight some of the talented women that work here. We interviewed three of our amazing women, Maria, Jennifer, and Grace, to learn more about their contributions and experiences in the Engineering/Tech field.

What do you do at Delta-Q Technologies?

Maria: I am a part of the sales group as an OEM Account Manager, and handle accounts that are within the material handling market segments.

Jennifer: I am a Financial Controller, and responsible for running the Finance department.

Grace: I am a Sales Application Engineer. I work closely with our account managers and customers to help deliver the best possible technical solution that meet our customer’s requirements.

What excites you the most about your role at Delta-Q Technologies?

Maria: What excites me the most is the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects, and applications, like Drones and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). It’s a great feeling to know that the work we do makes a difference in the world, especially with some of the companies we get to work with.

Jennifer: The most exciting thing about my role at Delta-Q is being able to work with a great group of people from various backgrounds and cultures. We all come together to deliver a superior product to meet our customers needs.

Grace: I like how my role allows me to learn from different teams, and about various applications. It’s interesting to see the number of applications our chargers can be designed into. From golf cars, floor scrubbers, lawn mowers, to flying drones and lift foils. The sky’s the limit.

What inspired you to work for an engineering tech company?

Maria: I always loved math, science, and computers. I grew up in a big city, and had some pretty amazing teachers who learned about computers and languages, and introduced these courses at my high school. They got funding to bring in computer equipment to teach us, and created a pilot program, which I got to be a part of. By the time I left high school, I was adept at programming in three to four languages, and had familiarity with various hardware systems.

Jennifer: What inspired me to work for an engineering company is my previous background in biotech and health. I wanted to continue to work in an industry that is socially or environmentally responsible, which is why I decided to try out clean technology.

Grace: Things are constantly changing, and there’s always something new to learn in an engineering tech company.

What do you think is the best part about being a woman in the engineering/tech field?

Maria: The best part about being a woman in tech is that we get to be at the forefront of innovation, and to see the number of women in tech roles increase.

Jennifer: The best part is that we are pioneers in a predominantly male industry. I think we are just forging the way to show other women that they can also join in, and be a part of an industry that makes change happen.

Grace: We can bring a different perspective to various projects.

If you could give one piece of advice to women looking to enter the engineering/tech industry, what would it be?

Maria: Don’t be afraid to be yourself, capitalize on your strengths, and don’t ever feel like you can’t act or say something in a certain way to not stand out. Stand out! Just be respectful at all times, listen, and always be willing to learn.

Jennifer: Be honest with yourself. If this is an industry that you would really be interested in, then it would be obvious to the people you meet during the interview stage.

Grace: It’s beneficial to research and speak to people who are already working in the industry you want to get into. There are many different job functions in tech. Finding out more information will help you decide what’s the best fit.
