Delta-Q chargers achieve sweeping CEC energy efficiency approvals

Today Delta-Q Technologies announced that all of its QuiQ and IC650 Series Charger models have been approved under the newly implemented  (CEC) Appliance Efficiency Standards for Battery Chargers.

The PowerWise QE Charger, designed and manufactured by Delta-Q for E-Z-GO’s golf cars and utility vehicles, has also achieved full CEC approval.

All Delta-Q products sold in the U.S. will now bear the CEC approval logo—a “BC” mark surrounded by a circle. A searchable database of approved chargers is available on the CEC website.

These new standards immediately impact the electric golf and utility vehicle markets. Chargers manufactured after February 1, 2013 that do not bear the CEC approval logo cannot be sold or supplied with machines in California.“We’ve been proactive with the new CEC efficiency regulations and provided our OEM customers with a painless transition. Delta-Q is going to continue to educate its customers about these regulations, and expects to win more business with lift truck OEMs as the efficiency regulations expand to industrial applications in 2014,” said Lloyd Gomm, Director, Product Management.

Additional CEC regulations for battery chargers in other industrial applications, such as forklifts (lift trucks), will come into effect on January 1, 2014. The IC650 Charger was designed for on-board usage with class 3 lift trucks (pallet trucks, pallet walkies, etc.), aerial work platforms and floor machines. The complete scope of CEC efficiency regulations come into effect in 2017.

The QuiQ 1 kW Charger has been approved in its 24V, 36V, 48V, 72V, and 96V configurations. The IC650 Charger has been approved in its 24V, 36V and 48V configurations. The PowerWise QE Charger is approved in its 48V version.

In addition to meeting the CEC regulations, customers using high-efficiency Delta-Q chargers will experience a lower total cost of ownership as their chargers use less utility-supplied energy to recharge their battery packs than traditional charger types used in industrial applications.

The new CEC regulations are expected to influence yet-to-be-announced efficiency standards from the U.S. Department of Energy. With the new standards, the State of California estimates its ratepayers will save approximately $306 million [and] nearly 2,200 gigawatt hours each year – or enough energy to power nearly 350,000 homes. It will also eliminate 1 million metric tons of carbon emissions.
